The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team came out on top of the 2002
Big West All-Conference teams on Tuesday, leading all teams with eight
overall selections and four first-team honorees in a vote on the conference's
coaches.
Atop that group, freshman goalkeeper Karen
Bardsley (Chino Hills, Calif.) was named the Big West Conference Freshman
of the Year after posting a 0.96 goals against average and 5.18 saves
per match – both of which ranked third in the league. She was also
named to the Big West Second Team.
Seniors Kim Houg (Upland,
Calif.) and Lindsey Glick
(Torrance, Calif.) were named to the first team for the first time in
their careers and were joined on the squad by sophomore Erica
Jacalone (Temple City, Calif.) and freshman Allison
Bowman (Diamond Bar, Calif.).
Three Titans were added to the All-Big West Honorable Mention team as
sophomores Kellie Cox (Lancaster,
Calif.) and Vanessa Valentine
(Encinitas, Calif.) as well as freshman Marlene
Sandoval (Placentia, Calif.) made the list.
Jacalone, Valentine and Cox were honored for the second consecutive season
after Cox was a first-team selection in 2001, Valentine made the second
team, and Jacalone was an honorable mention honoree.
It is the second consecutive year that the Titans have placed four on
the All-Big West first team, matching last year's honor roll when Cox,
Michele Bannister, Jenny Mescher and Tennli Ulicny made the first team.
Cal State Fullerton finished the 2002 season 12-5-1 overall and 6-3 in
the Big West Conference for third place behind conference champion Cal
Poly and second-place UC Santa Barbara.
