Pin Not Nearly Enough vs. ASU Feb. 16, 2003 Fullerton, CA
Rowdy Lundegreen pinned Ron Renzi in 4:09 of the
184-pound bout Sunday night but it was one of only two wins for Cal State
Fullerton as the Titans dropped a Pac-10 dual wrestling match to Arizona
State, 30-9, in the regular season finale for both squads.
The Sun Devils got a technical fall from Jeremy Mendoza at 125 pounds
and heavyweight Kellan Fluckiger won the heavyweight bout by forfeit.
No. 1-ranked Eric Larkin scored a major decision at 149 pounds over Fullertons
Brett Gordon. The Titans other win came at 133 pounds when David
Rodriguez outscored Adam Chavira, 13-7.
The most exciting match of the night came at 174 pounds. Fullertons
Chris Carlino had an 8-7 lead in the closing seconds. Curtis Owen got
a takedown with about five seconds remaining to take a 9-8 lead but Carlino
escaped just before the whistle for a 9-9 tie. Owen logged an 11-9 win
with a takedown 30 seconds into overtime.
Fullerton finished with a 9-10 dual meet record and was 4-1 at home.
Arizona State, which lost a match earlier in the day at Fresno State,
and Cal State Fullerton will next compete in the Pac-10 Championships
on March 2 and 3 at Boise State.
