Feb. 26, 2005 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

Charlee Underwood scored 16 points and Amber Pruitt added 14 Saturday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 66-65 Big West Conference women’s basketball victory over Cal Poly.

Courtney Cameron had 15 points and Kianey Givens-Davis had 13 for the Mustangs, who saw Jennifer Dooley’s 3-point attempt from the corner stick between the rim and the backboard at the buzzer.

Fullerton is now 6-19 overall and 4-12 in the Big West. Cal Poly fell to 10-15, 4-12 including two losses to the Titans to give up the first head-to-head tie-breaker when the standings are complete next week.

India McDaniel made two free throws to put Fullerton ahead to stay at 62-61 with 2:42 to play. Pruitt and McDaniel hit jumpers for a 66-62 lead with 1:38 to go and the Titans were still up, 66-63, and had the ball with 27 seconds remaining. But two turnovers led to a pair of free throws by Cameron and then Dooley’s miss.
Fullerton led by as many as 18 points in the first half at 35-17 with 3:25 remaining before intermission. The Mustangs closed to 35-24 at the half and then used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to take a 56-49 lead with 8:39 to play, completing a 39-14 swing. Consecutive 3-point baskets by Dooley and Cameron capped the spurt.

Pruitt scored 6 unanswered points to get Fullerton back within a point at 58-57 with 5:22 remaining.

Fullerton outrebounded the Mustangs, 41-31, with Melanie Mosley getting 8 in only 19 minutes of play. Michelle Henke had 6 to lead Cal Poly.

Fullerton concludes the regular season next week on the road at Cal State Northridge and Pacific. Cal Poly is home to Long Beach State and UC Irvine.
