Pacific's Tina Sanerivi scored a game-high 23 points and the Tigers shot
50 percent from the field for the contest to hand host Cal State Fullerton
a 61-55 defeat on Thursday night at Titan Gym.
The Titans fell to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in the Big West as their losing
streak reached five games. Pacific improved to 3-6 overall, 1-1 in league
play.
Sanerivi was 10-of-15 from the floor for Pacific, which got a balanced
scoring effort up an down the lineup. Sanerivi was the only Tiger in double
figures for the contest.
Fullerton was led by sophomore Charlee Underwood, who netted a team-high
20 points.
Pacific outrebounded Cal State Fullerton 46-28 for the game and won despite
committing 31 turnovers on the night. The Tigers were 22-for-44 as a team
compared to the Titans, who took 72 shots on the night, but hit on only
35 percent from the field.
Cal State Fullerton led by as many as five points in the first half, but
a 15-3 run over the next 12 minutes gave Pacific a 22-15 advantage with
3:57 remaining.
The Titans closed to within two points twice, but four free throws by
Pacific's Jessica Brantley gave the Tigers a 28-22 advantage at the break.
Pacific led by as many as 12 points late in the second half, but an 8-0
run by Cal State Fullerton brought the Titans to within four points with
:46 remaining. However, the Tigers' Charity Czerwinski went 4-for-4 from
the line down the stretch to hold off any chance of a Titan rally.
Cal State Fullerton now hits the road for four consecutive games, three
of those coming against Big West Conference opponents. The Titans next
hit the floor on Thursday (Jan. 6) as they travel to UC Riverside and
then again on Saturday (Jan. 8) at future conference rival UC Davis.
