Loyola Marymount's Jacquelyn Woods scored a career-high 29 points to lead
the visiting Lions to a, 67-50, victory over host Cal State Fullerton
in a non-conference women's basketball contest on Tuesday night at Titan
Gym.
Cal State Fullerton fell to 1-4 overall on the season
and lost its fifth home opener in the last six tried. LMU improved to
3-2 overall on the season.
Woods hit on 11-of-18 from the floor for the Lions, who shot .464 for
the game from the field, including a .542 clip in the second half. She
was joined in double figures by teammate Jevay Grooms, who added 10 points
in the win.
The Titans were led by senior Melanie Mosley, who set new career-high's
with 13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Charlee Underwood was the
next-highest scorer for Fullerton with nine.
After trailing by five points early on, the Titans battled back, using
a 9-2 run to take their first lead of the contest at 15-13 with 9:39 remaining
in the first half. Fullerton led by as many as three points twice, the
last coming at 18-15 with 8:36 remaining.
That's when the LMU offense kicked into gear, going on an 11-0 run over
the next four minutes to build an eight-point lead. The Lions led by as
many as nine points with just over two minutes remaining and held a seven-point,
34-27, lead at the break.
LMU outscored the Titans, 33-23, in the second half, leading by as many
as 20 points at one point, and outrebounding Fullerton, 42-25, for the
game.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Friday
(Dec. 3) as the Titans play host to Northern Arizona at Titan Gym. Tip-off
is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live over the Internet at
