After trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half Cal State Fullerton
took a 34-27 lead into halftime and held on to defeat East Carolina University
65-57 in the consolation game of Four Points LAX Turkey Shootout at Firestone
Fieldhouse Saturday.
It was the first win of the year for the Titans who now stand at 1-3,
while East Carolina suffered their second loss in as many days dropping
to 1-3.
After the half a 12-3 ECU run had the game tied as Shanita Sutton stepped
to the line with the chance to give her team the lead. Sutton hit one
of two free throws to contribute to her team-high 14 points while also
grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Charlee Underwood, who earned all-tournament honors, led the
Titans with her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10
rebounds. Junior Amber Pruitt scored a game-high 18 points to go with
six rebounds and sophomore Audrey Taylor added 13 points.
ECU shot .407 from the floor for the game, including .462 during its second-half
comeback attempt. The Titans shot .393 from the field for the game.
Fullerton returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 30) at 7 p.m. with its home
opener against Loyola Marymount at Titan Gym. Cal State Fullerton will
look to avenge an earlier loss to the Lions, 67-58, in Reno, Nev.
