Jeannie Saunders' three-pointer with nine minutes left in the second half
capped a 22-2 run by host Long Beach State and lifted the 49ers to a 76-68
come-from-behind victory over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night at
The Pyramid.
The Titans fell to 1-11 overall, 0-4 in the Big West Conference as they
dropped their eight consecutive game. Long Beach State improved to 8-4
overall and 4-1 in league play.
Fullerton led by as many as 15 points in the second half at 55-40 as the
Titans opened the second period with a 12-3 run.
However, the upset bid was quashed as Long Beach State exploded, scoring
22 of the next 24 points, taking its first lead since the 11:55 mark in
the first half on Saunders' three pointer.
The Titans' shooting woes continued, despite shooting a season-best .426
from the field for the game. Fullerton hit on just 33 percent from the
field in the second half to the 49ers' 45 percent and were outrebounded
44-28 for the contest.
Cal State Fullerton was led by junior Amber Pruitt, who had a game-high
21 points, but only four points in the second half on 2-of-6 shooting.
She was joined by sophomores Charlee Underwood (16 points) and India McDaniel
(12 points).
Senior Melanie Mosley narrowly missed her first career double-double with
nine points and a career-best 12 rebounds.
Long Beach State was led by Crystal McCutcheon, who had a team-best 17
points and led four others in double figures. Aisha Hollans and Saunders
added 12 points each while Petra Glaser and Fernanda Santos each chipped
in 10.
The Titans next travel south to meet Orange County rival UC Irvine on
Saturday night (Jan. 15) at 7 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.
