Cal State Fullerton sophomore Charlee Underwood notched her second double-double
of the season and led two other Titans in double figures as Fullerton
edged host Idaho, 68-65, on Thursday night at the Cowan Spectrum in Moscow,
Idaho.
The Titans snapped their two-game losing skid and handed the Vandals only
their second loss in 11 games at home this season in improving to 5-17
overall, 3-10 in the Big West Conference. Idaho, which entered the game
in a tie for second place in the league with Long Beach State, fell to
15-8 overall, 10-4 in league play.
Underwood scored in double figures for the sixth straight game, tallying
12 points and grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds on the night. Junior
Amber Pruitt added 15 points off the bench while junior Andrea Adams had
11 points. Senior Melanie Mosley was also strong on the boards, nabbing
15 on the night.
Idaho was led by Emily Faurholt, who had 25
points, and Heather Thoelke, who added 16 points.
Fullerton shot 44.4 percent from the floor to Idaho's 34.4 percent and
held a 52-33 advantage on the boards for the game. The 52 rebounds tie
a season high set on Dec. 28 in double overtime against Cal State Northridge.
The scored was tied five times in the opening period before an 11-2 run
by the Titans gave them a six-point lead at 29-23 with just under three
points remaining and carried a 31-28 lead at halftime.
The Vandals regained the lead on a three-pointer by Karly Felton with
just under three minutes gone in the second half, but it would be the
Titans who had the last say in things, going on a 9-3 run midway through
the half, leading by as many as seven points with 3:55 remaining, and
holding off a late Idaho rally to notch only their second road win of
the season.
Cal State Fullerton looks to put together back-to-back victories for the
first time this season on Saturday night when it travels to Utah State
for a 6 p.m. (PST) tip-off.
