Kansas center Crystal Kemp scored a game high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting
to lead the host Jayhawks to a, 90-46, non-conference women's basketball
victory over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday morning in the first round
of the Holiday Inn Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kan.
The Titans fell to 0-4 overall to start the season and extended its losing
streak to seven games dating back to last season. The Jayhawks improved
to 2-2 overall on the year.
Aside from Kemp, freshman Lauren Ervin was also in double figures for
the Jayhawks, scoring 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting off the bench. Kansas
shooters were hot all day from the field, shooting .642 from the field
(36-for-56) and 23-of-27 (.852) in the second half. By contrast, the Titans
shot just .349 from the floor for the game.
Cal State Fullerton was led by junior Cynthia Sorrell and freshman Charlee
Underwood, who scored 10 points apiece.
The Titans trailed just 29-16 at the half, but were outscored 61-30 after
the break.
Fullerton will now face the loser of the Alabama State-UTEP match-up on
Sunday at 10 a.m. (PST). Kansas will meet the winner of the Hornets and
Miners for the tournament championship on Sunday at approximately Noon
(PST).
