Come From Behind to Beat USD, 76-74 Dec. 14, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Cal State Fullerton junior Tamara Quinn hit a pair of free throws with 3:35 remaining to snap a 69-69 tie and scored the Titans final eight points on the night as Fullerton came from behind and held on to defeat visiting San Diego, 76-74, on Saturday night in a non-conference womens basketball game at Titan Gym. The Titans improved to 2-6 overall, snapping a two-game losing streak to the Toreros and a six-game losing streak overall. USD fell to 5-3 overall and saw its three-game winning streak come to a close. Trailing by seven points at halftime, the Titans stormed back to tie the game at 66-66 with 5:44 remaining in the second half on a three-pointer by Quinn (her fourth of the night) and, after a Torero basket, drew even once again on a short jumper by senior Jennielee Greslie with 4:50 left. It was then Quinns show. She hit all of her free throws for the game (6-for-8) in the final four minutes and also contributed a short jumper with 35 seconds remaining to give the Titans their largest lead of the game at four points. However, tense moments reigned over the gym in the final seconds of the game. After San Diegos Kerri Nakamoto hit a running lay-up to draw the Toreros to within two points, Quinn hit just 1-of-2 from the line to push the lead to three points with eight seconds remaining. With a chance to tie, Tiara Harris hoisted a three-pointer with just over one second on the clock, but was fouled in the action and went to the line to attempt to tie the game. Harris, however, missed the first free throw and, after making the second, intentionally missed the third to try and get the rebound for the last-second jumper to tie the game. However, the Titan post players tied up the shooter, who could not get off a shot as the final horn sounded. Cal State Fullerton led quickly in the first half, scoring on a jumper by senior Heather Hansen and, after a quick five-point Torero burst, regained the lead on five points by Quinn to go up 7-5. After trading baskets, San Diego went on a quick 7-0 run to lead by six and then upped the lead to 10 points at 25-15 thanks to a 17-6 run over the next 4:41. The Toreros led by as many as 11 points with 4:23 remaining, but the Titans cut that lead to three points thanks to a 14-6 run with 1:30 left in the period. USD then scored six of the final eight points of the half to lead, 46-39, at the break. Quinn tallied a season-high 22 points in 20 minutes of action for her second 20-point game of the season and the sixth of the career. Hansen notched her seventh double-digit scoring performance and her sixth straight game with 10-or-more points thanks to 14 points and three rebounds on the night to go with a pair of blocks. Sophomore Catherine Holman had 10 points and a team-best six boards. San Diego was led by senior Erin Malich, who had 18 points and eight boards. Harris added 15 points and Marie Plocher notched 12 points and eight rebounds on the night. Cal State Fullerton shot a season-best .509 (27-of-53) from the floor including 68 percent (17-of-25) from the field in the first half and .636 (7-of-11) from three-point range. The Toreros shot .441 from the field and outrebounded the Titans 36-32. Fullerton returns to action on Friday (Dec. 20) at 7 p.m. as the Titans host Eastern Washington. ####
