Fall in Exhibition Opener, 73-66 Nov. 2, 2002 – Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Love and Basketball's Mary Apiafi tallied a game-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting while leading two otherr teammates in double-figures as they went to on defeat Cal State Fullerton, 73-66, in an exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at Titan Gym. The Titans were led by senior Heather Hansen (Norco, Calif.), who notched a team-high 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Five other Fullerton players notched seven points on the day. Cal State Fullerton opened up on fire with eight straight points to start the contest including a three-pointer by senior Allyson Alhadeff (Chino, Calif.) and a three-point play from Hansen. However, Love and Basketball battled back, using an 11-2 run to take a one-point lead midway through the period. They led by 10 points three times in the first half before the Titans whittled the deficit down to four heading into the lockerroom at the half. The second half for Cal State Fullerton began a lot slower than the first, going scoreless in the first 4:04 of the period and not hitting a field goal until the 12:36 mark of the half. Love and Basketball, which led by as many as 11 after the break, led by 10 points midway through the period before the Titans put together a 7-2 run to close to within five points at 51-46, and got to within four points at 63-59 with 4:27 remaining in the period. A quick 7-0 run by Love and Basketball rebuilt the lead to 11 points and they held of the charging Titans, who scored six of the final seven points in the period. Love and Basketball shot 50 percent for the game, but were outrebounded by Cal State Fullerton, 44-32. A sloppy game by both sides produced 52 combined turnovers (26 for each team) while Love and Basketball capitalized with 18 steals. The Titans shot .328 from the field for the game – .235 in the second half. Cal State Fullerton concludes its exhibition season with a contest against The Firm on Saturday (Nov. 12) at 7 p.m. at Titan Gym. ####
