Pacific's Vanessa Dupont notched a double-double with 28 points and 15
rebounds, leading three other Tigers in double figures as Pacific rolled
to an 85-61 victory over Cal State Fullerton in a Big West Conference
women's basketball match up on Saturday night at the Spanos Center.
The Titans' two-game winning streak came to an end as Fullerton fell to
5-13 overall and 3-4 in the Big West. The Tigers improved to 7-12 overall
and 4-4 in league play.
Cal State Fullerton was led offensively by sophomore Catherine Holman,
who had 14 points and two rebounds. Freshman Andrea Adams and junior Rochelle
Ortega each added 13 points apiece.
For the Tigers, Corinne Wong had 15 points followed by Mischa Clark and
Ahshalic Johnson, who had 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Pacific held a 45-28 advantage on the boards and shot .538 from the field
for the game. The Titans committed 24 turnovers on the night and were
hampered by poor shooting, hitting on only 30 percent of their shots from
the floor.
Fullerton led early on, building a seven point lead at 13-6 with 12:40
remaining, but Pacific fought back with an 11-5 run to pull to within
one point at 18-17 with 8:02 remaining in the first half. After trading
baskets, the Tigers tied the game at 20 on a pair of free throws by Johnson
and took the lead for good on a lay up by Dupont.
Pacific closed the half with an 18-9 run to go into the lockerroom ahead,
38-29.
The second half was all Tigers as Pacific led by as many as 28 points
at one point and never let the Titans come closer than six points with
18:50 remaining in the period.
Cal State Fullerton returns home on Thursday (Feb. 6) to host Long Beach
State at 7 p.m. at Titan Gym.
