THIS SEASON: Ortega will add tremendous height and depth to the Titan frontcourt this season and should challenge for playing time as a sophomore.

FRESNO CITY COLLEGE:
Ortega had a spectacular freshman campaign with the Rams during the 2000-01 season, averaging 9.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 3.0 blocked shots per game • shot .486 from the field and .780 from the free throw line • named to the All-Central Valley Conference first team as a freshman • helped lead FCC to a school-best 30-7 overall record and a 9-3 CVC mark for second place • advanced to the state semifinals where the Rams fell to eventual state champion Ventura, 74-58 • amassed a 3.3 GPA and was named to the Dean’s List • was also an all-conference middle blocker for the Ram volleyball squad which claimed its first conference title.

ROOSEVELT HS:
Played four seasons of varsity basketball and one season of volleyball for the Roughriders under head coach Kristi Pribe • named team MVP in 1999-00 and a North Yosemite League Championship • valedictorian of her graduating class, earned the school’s Female Scholar Athlete Award and named to the Principal’s List • graduated with a 4.21 GPA.

PERSONAL: Born August 12, 1982, in Rolette, ND • parents are Robert and Roxanne Ortega • majoring in health science with a minor in kinesiology • lists her hobbies as reading, coloring, making scrapbooks, hanging out with her friends and talking on the phone • also considered Fresno Pacific College and Concordia University in Irvine • chose Fullerton because “the whole team was kind of a mixture of past teammates and coaches” which “made her feel comfortable.”
