Women's Basketball Coaches
Hired on May 10, 2000, as the seventh head coach in Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball history, Barbara Ehardt enters her second season at the helm of Titan women’s basketball, continuting to rebuild a Cal State Fullerton program which hasn’t seen a winning season since 1990-91. With her, Ehardt brings a tradition of success as an assistant coach and a knowledge of the Big West which will prove invaluable as she continues her quest to bring Cal State Fullerton into the upper echelon of the conference in women’s basketball. Prior to assuming the position at Cal State Fullerton, Ehardt spent seven seasons at league rival UC Santa Barbara as an assistant coach under Head Coach Mark French to develop the Gauchos from a 9-19 team her first season into an eventual Big West Conference and NCAA power. Just three seasons after starting at UCSB, Ehardt helped the Gauchos to a 27-5 record and the first of back-to-back Big West Conference championships. UCSB also made consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, both of which led to first-round victories, during her tenure. “Playing and then working for Coach French for seven years provided me with the knowledge and confidence to effectively and successfully guide this team,” Ehardt said. “Coach French was not only a great teacher and example of how to do something, but her empowered me to coach and that is what I really appreciate about him.” After that, it was on to BYU, where, for the fourth time in her career, she was involved in a BlueStar Top 20 recruiting class in 1995. Ehardt, the top assistant for Head Coach Soni Adams, helped the Cougars to a pair of competitive seasons in the tough Western Athletic Conference before relocating to Washington State. “I probably had the biggest coaching growth spurt while I was at BYU,” Ehardt said. “We were in a transition period and were quite focused on bringing in more talent. I was really given the chance to coach and during my second year we had a tremendous turn-around in the second half of the season, almost pulling off the upset of then top-ranked Utah in the WAC tourney.” In her two seasons at WSU, Ehardt was an integral piece in the development of two top players - 1998 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Alke Dietal and 1999 All-Pac-10 selection Trisha Lamb, who has followed Ehardt to Fullerton. “I am so grateful for the opportunity that Harold gave me to coach and learn under him,” Ehardt said. “The experience and association of coaching in the Pac-10 was fantastic and I’ll always be grateful to him for that. Of course, I can’t forget that such is also why Tricia Lamb is here.” Ehardt attended Idaho Falls High School and spent two seasons at North Idaho College before finishing at Idaho State with a degree in English education in 1988. A point guard for NIC, Ehardt helped lead the school to a berth in the 1984 national junior college tournament. She also spent one season as a coach at Pocatello High School in Idaho in 1987. In her spare time Ehardt enjoys all outdoor activities, especially water sports and camping. She is active in the Republican Party and her church. She is also a sought after motivational speaker as well as an ‘Especially For Youth’ (EFY) speaker through Brigham Young University.
