Gauchos Recover from Slow Start to Stay Unbeaten

Emily Hendrickson had 12 kills in only 21 attempts Saturday night to lead slow-sarting UC Santa Barbara to a 3-0 sweep of Cal State Fullerton in Big West Conference women’s volleyball. The No. 10-ranked Gauchos improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big West while the Titans fell to 7-5, 1-3.


UCSB was trailing in the first game, 25-23, and was out of substitutions. But after a timeout, the Gauchos scored three quick points to take the lead on the way to a 30-28 victory and won the next two games handily by the same 30-19 score.


Janine Sandell had a match-high 13 kills for UCSB while Sarah Morrison led the Titans with 12 while hitting .393. Kristin Nelson had 19 digs for UCSB and the Gauchos’ Hendrickson and Titans’ Vanessa Vella each had 14.


UCSB is now 48-0 alltime vs. the Titans, who host a non-conference match Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Vs. San Diego State.
