Emily Hendrickson had 12 kills in only 21 attempts Saturday
night to lead slow-sarting UC Santa Barbara to a 3-0 sweep of Cal State
Fullerton in Big West Conference women’s volleyball. The No. 10-ranked
Gauchos improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big West while the Titans
fell to 7-5, 1-3.
UCSB was trailing in the first game, 25-23, and was out of substitutions.
But after a timeout, the Gauchos scored three quick points to take the
lead on the way to a 30-28 victory and won the next two games handily
by the same 30-19 score.
Janine Sandell had a match-high 13 kills for UCSB while Sarah Morrison
led the Titans with 12 while hitting .393. Kristin Nelson had 19 digs
for UCSB and the Gauchos’ Hendrickson and Titans’ Vanessa
Vella each had 14.
UCSB is now 48-0 alltime vs. the Titans, who host a non-conference match
Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Vs. San Diego State.
