Highlanders Come Out on Top in Five Games

Five Cal State Fullerton players scored double-digits in kills, but hit only .156 as a team as they dropped a five-game match to UC Riverside 3-2 (30-18, 32-30, 30-26, 15-12) Thursday night in a Big West Conference women’s volleyball match at Titan Gym.

With the loss the Titans (10-11, 3-9) snap a four-game winning streak against the Highlanders (11-11, 3-9) and failed to get their tenth home win of the season. It also marks their fourth loss in a row and their sixth out of their last seven games.

Jaime DeKiewiet scored a double-double en route to her game-leading 25 kills and 25 digs for the Highlanders. Valerie Bueno also added 23 kills and 14 digs in the victory.

Lauren Goins led the way for the Titans with 14 kills and 11 digs while Jennifer Francisco (11), Carley Dial (10), Tiffany Dolven (10) and Alyssa Opeka (10) each added ten or more kills.

Despite 6 blocking errors the Titans managed to out-block the Highlanders 14-11. Dial had seven (four solo) to lead all players.

Both teams hit the ball poorly on the night. Riverside hit only .210 while Fullerton hit .156 including .095 in the fifth and deciding game.

Fullerton will play again Friday night when the UC Davis Aggies come to Titan Gym for their first ever meeting with the Titans. Game time will be 7:00 p.m.
