Opens Strong With Sweep of Iona Sept. 3, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Cal State Fullerton senior Lauren Goins had 10 kills and 15 digs on the afternoon to help lead the Titans to a three-game sweep (30-12, 30-20, 30-21) over Iona in the second match of the 2004 Hawthorn Suites Titan Classic at Titan Gym. Fullerton won its season opener for the sixth time in the last eight seasons in improving to 1-0. Iona fell to 0-1. The Titans hit a combined .265 as a team and amassed 14 team blocks on the day to completely shut down the Gaels' offense. Iona's Miki Hogg led the team with a match-high 12 kills, but the Gaels had six players hitting in negative numbers for the match. Freshman libero Vanessa Vella joined Goins with 15 digs while junior Alyssa Opeka led all players with nine block assists on the afternoon. Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday as tournament action kicks off at 10 a.m. with the Titans and Delaware. Cal State Fullerton will also play the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. against Texas State. ####
