Texas State's Kacee Rogers had 16 kills and led three other players in
double-digit kills as the Bobcats rebounded and outlasted Delaware in
five games (30-24, 30-19, 23-30, 26-30, 18-16) in the opener of the 2004
Hawthorn Suites Titan Classic on Friday afternoon at Titan Gym.
The Bobcats looked dominating in taking a 2-0 lead, but strong serving
by the Blue Hens and errors by Texas State lifted Delaware back into the
thick of things as it won games three and four to send the match into
a deciding fifth game.
Delaware almost pulled off the upset after Texas State fought back to
tie game five at 13-13. However, the Blue Hens' apparent match-clinching
point was ruled to have gone out of bounds and gave the Bobcats new life.
Texas State took advantage and won four of the next six points to clinch
the match.
Rogers hit .536 for the match for the Bobcats and was dominating at the
net with 10 block assists. Brandy St. Francis added 12 kills and Kelly
Fletcher added 11 kills and 18 digs for Texas State. Amy Ramirez had a
match-high 23 digs, leading four other Bobcats in double figures.
Delaware was led by Valerie Murphy's 19 kills while Sarah Engle added
10. Taylor Govaars led the Blue Hens with 20 digs.
