Cal State Fullerton senior Lauren Goins tallied 15 kills on the night
and led two other Titans in double digits as they swept host UC Riverside
3-0 (30-24, 30-28, 30-25) on Friday night at the Student Recreation Center.
The Titans improved to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the Big West Conference.
The nine victories are the most since the 2000 squad finished the year
9-20 as Fullerton improved to 7-3 all-time against UCR, winning the last
four consecutive meetings.
The Highlanders fell to 9-6 overall, 1-4 in league action.
Fullerton hit .325 for the match, committing just nine attack errors on
the night and outblocking Riverside, 10-2. Alyssa Opeka (who also hit
.429 for the match) and Sarah Morrison each had 10 kills.
Jamie DeKiewet had a match-high 19 kills and 21 digs for UC Riverside
while Valerie Bueno added 18 kills.
Cal State Fullerton returns to the court next weekend as the Titans travel
to Pacific (Oct. 7) and Cal State Northridge (Oct. 9).
