Lauren Going smashed 13 kills, and collected 17 digs in a losing effort
as the University of Idaho volleyball team defeated the Cal State Fullerton
Thursday night 3-0 in a Big West Conference match in front of 667 at Memorial
Gym.
Cal State Fullerton saw their three-game winning streak come to a close
as they fell to13-12 overall, and 5-10 in the Big West, as the Vandals
improved to 16-9, 8-7 on the season.
Fullerton’s offense struggled as they recorded only 37 total kills
while committing 23 hitting errors to hit just .099 on the night.
The Vandals led wire to wire in game one downing Fullerton 30-21 by out-hitting
Fullerton .204 to .098. The Titans only managed nine kills while committing
five errors.
Game two saw the two teams struggle for command as they notched 14 ties
before the Vandals put three straight points together to pull ahead 28-25.
A few key blocks followed to help the Vandals wrap up the 30-27 win.
The Titans jumped out to an early lead in game three (11-8) but Idaho
battled back and tied it at 14. The Titans couldn’t keep up and
the Vandals pulled away slowly to win the decisive game 30-23.
Kati Tikker led all players with 16 kills and Saxony Brown scored a double-double
with 10 kills and 15 digs to lead Idaho.
Goins picked up her 16th double-double for the Titans, and posted her
23rd game with ten-or-more kills.
Carley Dial hit .389 on the night spiking 9 kills and also picking up
4 blocks on the defensive end and freshman Vanessa Vella scraped up another
12 digs moving her into second place on the Fullerton single-season record
list with 421 digs.
Fullerton will take a day to travel to Utah State where they will meet
up with the Aggies and conclude their 2004 road schedule on Saturday night
(11/13) for another Big West showdown set to begin at 7:00 p.m. MST.
