Titans Rally to Win Hawthorn Suites Classic The Titans went 3-0 in the season-opening tourney while the Bobcats finished 2-1 for second place. Fullerton won game No. 4 by a lopsided 30-13 margin and carried that momentum into game No. 5. Goins served consecutive aces to give Fullerton an 8-4 lead and the Bobcats could get only as close as 3 points again. Freshman libero Vanessa Vella of the Titans was selected the tournament most valuable player. Joining her on the all-tournament team were teammates Goins, Alyssa Opeka and Tiffany Dolven, Texas State's Kacee Rogers and Amy ramirez and Taylor Govaars of Delaware. In Saturday's opening match, Lauren Goins had 16 kills and Vanessa Vella had 22 digs to lead the Titans to a 3-1 (29-31, 30-25, 30-20, 30-23) win over Delaware. The Blue Hens won the first game but made seven ballhandling errors to contribute to their demise. Sarah Engle had 20 kills and Taylor Govaars had 29 digs. In the second match of the day, Texas State cruised in the deciding fifth game to a 15-7 win. Iona, which won game No. 1 by a 35-33 count, came back to win game No. 4 as well, 30-26. Kacee Rogers had 20 kills and Elizabeth Nwoke added 17 for the Bobcats, who got 27 digs from Amy Ramirez. Miki Hogg (20 kills, Megan Dailey (17 kills and 13 digs) and Chelsea White (16 kills and 17 digs) led the Gaels. In the third match, Delaware bounced back from an opening game loss to coast to three relatively easily wins over Iona to grab third place. Valerie Murphy had 27 kills and Talor Govaars had 23 digs for the Blue Hens. Iona hit only .100 for the game with Chelse White and Miki Hogg each collecting 11 kills.
