Senior middle blocker Erin Cartwright-Davis (Hyrum, Utah) recorded a career-high
33 kills and a career-high 25 digs to lead Utah State's women's volleyball
team to a five-game win (30-25, 23-30, 31-33, 30-24, 15-12) over Cal State
Fullerton here Thursday night.
With the win, Utah State improves to 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the Big West
Conference, while Cal State Fullerton falls to 7-13 on the season and
1-7 in league play with the loss.
Cartwright-Davis led the Aggies in the opening game with eight kills as
Utah State built a six-point lead at 17-11 en route to the five-point
win. USU hit a blistering .370 in the opening game, while Cal State Fullerton
hit .256.
Despite nine kills from Cartwright-Davis in game two, the Titans rallied
from a five-point deficit (11-16) to score 19 of the final 26 points to
even the match at one game apiece as they hit .367 in the game.
In game three, Utah State had a comfortable 21-17 advantage before Cal
State Fullerton scored three straight points to get back into the contest.
Utah State extended its lead back to four at 29-25 before the Titans rattled
off five straight points to take a 30-29 lead. Fullerton then scored three
of the final five points to take a two games to one lead.
Utah State rebounded in game four behind five kills apiece from Cartwright-Davis
and freshman opposite side hitter Mari Ruddick (Canyon Country, Calif.)
to notch the six point win. In game five, Cal State Fullerton had an 8-7
advantage before USU finished the match with an 8-4 run to record the
win.
Lauren Goins had 20 kills and 16 digs to lead Fullerton.
Cal State Fullerton plays at Idaho Saturday night.
