The Pacific women's volleyball team improved to 14-9 overall and 9-6 in
Big West Conference action with a 30-19, 30-23, 30-22 sweep of Cal State
Fullerton on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Alex G. Spanos Center. With the
loss, Cal State Fullerton fell to 8-18 (2-12 Big West).
Pacific jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in game one and led by as many
as 13 points in the game en route to a 30-19 victory. As a team, the Tigers
pounded 20 kills with just three errors in 41 attempts (.415) in the game.
Senior Jennifer Joines (Milpitas, Calif.) collected three service aces
in four plays to push Pacific to an 8-3 advantage early in game two. The
Tigers led the remainder of the way and took a two game advantage in the
match with a 30-23 game two win.
The Tigers once again started strong in the third game, jumping to a 7-1
lead and finishing off the three-game sweep with a 30-22 game three win.
Joines led all attackers with 17 kills on the evening for Pacific. She
also matched her career-high with six service aces in the match. Sophomore
Ashley Groothuis (Aurora, Neb.) and freshman Stevie Mussie (Puyallup,
Wash.) contributed 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior Joanna Rentz
(Glen Ellen, Calif.) led four Tigers in double figures in digs with a
match-high 17.
Sarah Morrison led Cal State Fullerton with six kills.
