Zimmerman
Hired as Head Coach Dec. 17 , 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Carolyn Zimmerman, who coached the Cal State Fullerton womens volleyball team during the 2002 season on an interim basis, today signed a contract to continue as the Titans head coach through the 2004 season. Were pleased with the job Carolyn did this year, said Director of Athletics Brian Quinn. She has gotten the program started in the right direction and has a strong recruiting class coming in next year. Fullerton posted a 5-26 overall record and a Big West Conference mark of 1-17 in 2002. The Titans placed second at the Rose Hill Classic at Fordham in September and finished the year on an upswing with a win over UC Riverside and the inclusion of senior Kim Levey and sophomore Lauren Goins on the All-Big West honorable mention list. The Titans also took Pacific and Utah State to five-game matches. First-year assistant coaches Ken Ko and Merrilee Conway also were rehired on one-year contracts. Zimmerman previously served seven years as an assistant to Mary Ellen Murchison, who retired from the position on Apr. 15 after 10 years at the post. I am excited about the opportunity Cal State Fullerton has given me to continue my work as the leader of the volleyball program, said Zimmerman. This team was very young and inexperienced in 2002. Despite our lack of experience we had a lot of successes within the program which will provide a strong foundation and environment necessary for a program to build a tradition of winning and excellence. I plan on taking Cal State Fullerton to new heights in the Big West Conference. This will be possible because of our strong athletic administrative support and hardworking, dedicated players and coaches. Zimmerman resides in Redondo Beach with husband Joe, sons Jimmy and Danny, and daughter Kira. Fullerton has had good success promoting assistants to head jobs in the past and we pride ourselves on loyalty to the staff and rewarding those who work hard, added Quinn. Other Titan head coaches who previously served as CSF assistants are baseball coach George Horton, softball coach Michelle Gromacki, womens soccer coach Ali Khosroshahin, cross country and track and field coach John Elders, womens gymnastics coach Julie Knight and mens basketball coach Donny Daniels, who had an 11-year stint as an assistant in Utah between his Fullerton assignments.
