Titans' Losing Streak at 20 After Loss to UC Irvine

Kim Levey had 30 assists, but the visiting Cal State Fullerton Titans were swept by UC Irvine, 30-18, 30-27, 30-19 in a Big West Conference volleyball match at Crawford Hall Saturday night.

The Titans, who have now lost 20 consecutive matches, fell to 4-22 overall and remained winless in the Big West with a 0-13 tab. The Anteaters improved to 13-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

The Titans jumped on the Anteaters in game one with four straight points before UCI would get on the board. The Anteaters rallied and took the lead at 9-8 and went on to win the game, outhitting the Titans 20-10.

Cal State Fullerton kept the second game close and neither team could open up a lead of more than two points for most of the set, until consecutive kills gave UCI a 29-25 edge. The Titans narrowed the lead with two points, but a kill by UCI's Rebecca Larsen capped the game for the squad.

UC Irvine took control of the third game, rattling off five straight points for a 13-7 lead. Cal State Fullerton never threatened as UCI went on to win the match.
CSF was led by Sarah Morrison, the only Titan to record double-figure kills with 10. Renee Vignery and Krista Bebernes paced the defense with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

The Anteaters were led by Kelly Wing's 21 kills, while Larsen and Kurzbard had 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Senior Chanda McLeod led the defensive effort with 17 digs while Wing followed with 12. Libero Brenda Waterman also added 11 digs. Setter Ashlie Hain had 49 set assists for the home team.
