Titans to Third Straight Win Sept. 2 , 2002 Brooklyn, N.Y. Box Score Carley Dial (Evergreen, CO/Evergreen) and Lauren Goins (La Habra, CA/La Habra) each recorded 12 kills for for Cal State Fullerton, which closed with 51 kills en route to a 3-0 (30-16, 30-25, 30-19) triumph over Long Island at Schwartz Center. The Titans (3-1), who have won three consecutive matches since losing the season opener to Tennessee, were too much to handle from the outset, compiling 20 kills compared to just seven errors for a .295 hitting percentage in game one. They topped at a .379 percentage in game two and finished the match with a .333 percentage and just 13 errors. Dial was the main factor behind Fullerton’s strong hitting, closing with a stunning .563 percentage and just three errors over 16 attacks. Goins managed a .286 percentage with just two errors in 35 attempts. Kim Levey (Bakersfield, CA/Stockdale) dished out 39 assists with April Bliss (Aptos, CA/Cabrillo College) and Krista Bebernes (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda) finishing with 12 digs apiece for the Titans, who gained a 61-47 digs advantage. They close their five-game East Coast swing tonight at Manhattan. The Blackbirds (2-1) could not improve on the best start in school history after defeating The Citadel and Maryland Eastern Shore over the weekend. Junior Cristina Pintilie (Cluj Napoca, Romania) continued her red-hot start with 15 kills and nine digs. She leads LIU in the young season with 44 kills, an average of almost 4 1/2 per game. Sophomore Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina) posted her first collegiate double-double with 22 aces and 12 digs, and senior April Danzy (Dowagiac, MI) totaled eight kills and seven digs. Junior Jessica Van Ness (Castalia, OH) finished with four of the Blackbirds’ five aces. Fullerton closes out its East Coast trip with a match at Manahattan tonight at 6 p.m. EDT.
