Long Beach Sweeps Titans at the Pyramid

Led by Elisha Thomas' team-high 11 kills, the No. 9 ranked Long Beach State women's volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak, and defeated the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 3-0 tonight at The Pyramid. Game scores were 30-16, 30-19, 30-22.

The 49ers improve to 19-3 (8-3 Big West), while CSF dropped to 4-21 (0-12 Big West) and lost its 19th consecutive match. Kim Levey had 23 assists in the match to break Stephanie Shrieve's school career mark of 3,388. Levey now has 3,403 with six matches remaining.

Long Beach State jumped on the Titans early and often in game one, registering 20 kills in the frame for a .457 hitting percentage. Thomas and Erika Chidester both recorded five kills in the set to pace The Beach. Brittany Hochevar chipped in with four kills and 13 assists. LBSU was also solid on defense, limiting CS Fullerton to just a .051 attack percentage. LBSU controlled the net, totaling four block assists and two block solos.

The Beach kept rolling in the second game, jumping out to an early 14-3 lead. Lindsay Phillips got into the offensive mix, posting five kills, while teammate Kelsey Young continued to play an error free match (5-0-8). Long Beach State also kept up their defensive pressure at the net, registering 12 more block assists in the frame, and out-digging the Titans, 14-9.

LBSU closed out Cal State Fullerton in the third game, 30-22.

Fullerton will play at UC Irvine Saturday night
