Fullerton Drops Sixth Straight with Loss to Pacific

The No. 15 Pacific women’s volleyball team (17-5, 8-2) defeated Cal State Fullerton (7-11, 8-2) 3-0 by scores of 30-21, 30-16 and 30-15 on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The win was the Tigers third straight win in Big West play.

The Pacific Tigers jumped out to a 17-12 lead in the first game, but Cal State Fullerton cut the score to 18-16. From that point on, Pacific scored 12 of the next 15 points to close the game out. The Tigers stormed out of the gates in the second game jumping out to a 20-10 lead and never looked back, as they defeated Cal State Fullerton 30-16 in the second game. The Tigers fell behind 5-1 in the third game, but scored 22 of the next 29 points to race out to a 23-12 before closing out the third game 30-15.

Senior outside hitter Jamie Hamm (Bellevue, Neb.) led the way for the Tigers with match highs of 17 kills and 14 digs. It was Hamm’s sixth straight double-double and 13th of the season. Junior middle blocker Elaine Goeders (Apple Valley, Minn.) hit .600 (10-1-15) for the night, had 10 kills and three blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Joines (Milpitas, Calif.) had 11 kills and three blocks.

Freshman setter Hayley Anderson (Saratoga, Calif.) had 31 assists and seven digs for the Tigers, while freshman middle blocker Sara Vinall (Stoney Creek, Ontario) had a career-high four service aces, three kills and three digs.

Pacific hit .441 on the night and committed a season low eight hitting errors. The Tigers held Cal State Fullerton to a .170 hitting percentage and outblocked the Titans 7.5 to 1 on the night. Pacific outaced Cal State Fullerton 10 to 2 on the night.

Setter Kim Levey had five kills, 26 assists and 13 digs on the night for Cal State Fullerton. Katie Crawford led the Titans with eight kills for the match.

Fullerton, which has lost six consecutive matches, plays its next three matches at home, beginning with a match against No. 1 Long Beach State on Friday at 7 p.m.
