Sabo and
Barlow Lead Titans to Third Straight Win Oct. 2, 2001 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Megan Sabo had 22 kills and Roxanne Barlow added 21 as the Cal State Fullerton womens volleyball team beat UC Riverside, 30-28, 30-27, 28-30, 30-15, in a Big West Conference match at Titan Gym Tuesday night. The Titans, who improved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play, reached the .500 mark in conference play for just the second time in their history (they were 1-1 in 1981). Fullerton also boasts its first three-match winning streak since 1998. Riverside fell to 8-6 and 1-4. The match was originally scheduled for Sept. 12, but postponed in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the East Coast. The two teams appeared evenly matched most of the night. The Titans squeaked out a two-point win in the opener and grabbed a commanding 10-2 lead in the second game before the Highlanders came back to tie the score, 15-15. From there, no team took more than a two-point lead until Renee Vignerys service ace gave the Titans a three-point margin of victory. Game three provided more of the same: no team was able to grab more than a three-point lead until the Highlanders went up, 29-25. But even then, Fullerton scored three straight points before Megan Sabos attack error helped Riverside avert the three-game sweep. The Titans saved their best for last, recording an attack percentage of .485 in the fourth game en route to the easy 30-15 win. Sabo had eight kills and a .700 percentage in the game. On the match, Fullerton, which had 13 aces, also received solid efforts from Katie Crawford (18 kills, .382 winning percentage), Be Holcombe (13 kills) and Kim Levey (67 assists, no ball-handling errors). Riverside was led by Rosanna Parizek, who had 15 kills and Shannon Burmaster, who notched 14 kills and 10 digs. The Titans continued their homestand this weekend with Big West Conference matches vs. Idaho (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Utah State (Saturday, 7 p.m.).
