Titans Rally in Fifth Game to Beat UC Irvine Oct. 27, 2001 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score
Kim Levey had a triple-double (11 kills, 61 assists and 18 digs) as Cal
State Fullerton rallied from an 11-6 fifth-game deficit to beat UC Irvine,
26-30, 34-32, 31-29, 21-30, 18-16, in a Big West Conference womens
volleyball match at Titan Gym Saturday night.
The Titans, who snapped a seven-match losing streak, improved to 8-12
overall and 4-9 in conference while the Anteaters fell to 3-16 and 1-10.
Trailing by five points in the fifth game, the Titans reeled off seven
straight points for a 13-11 lead. Irvine snapped the streak with a kill
by Rebecca Larsen, but the Titans answered on a kill by Levey to grab
a 14-12 lead and their first of four match-point opportunities. Irvine
later had a chance to win the match when it grabbed a 15-14 lead, but
Megan Sabos kill evened things up again. Katie Crawford had back-to-back
kills to help the Titans break a 16-16 tie and seal the match.
Crawford hit .500 and had 22 kills for the Titans and Sabo had 19 kills
and 20 digs. The Anteaters were paced by Kelly Wing 24 kills and
18 digs and by Chanda McLeods 22 kills and 18 digs. Ashlie Hain
had 72 assists for Irvine.
ullerton will host Loyola Marymount on Tuesday night
at 7 p.m.
