Titans Topped in Three by Idaho
Nov. 3, 2001 – Moscow, Idaho

Box Score

Cal State Fullerton lost for the10th time in 11 matches with a 30-25, 30-25, 30-27 Big West Conference setback to Idaho at Memorial Gym in Moscow on Saturday afternoon. The Vandals improved to 9-13 overall and 4-8 in conference and dropped Fullerton to 8-15 and 4-11.

In game one, Idaho went on a 7-1 run to turn a 6-6 tie into a 13-7 lead. Mindy Marques served a string of points both at the start and end of the game, which included five during the run. Sarah Meek supplied the play at the net during that run with two kills and a block.

The Vandals had another 5-0 run in the first game, which put things out of reach for the Titans. The streak included two more kills and another block by Meek.
In the second game, two big runs gave UI an insurmountable lead. Idaho built a 29-21 advantage before the Titans staved off four consecutive game points. It was not enough to keep the Vandals from winning as a CSF attack error handed Idaho a two-game lead.

In game three, the Vandals spent most of the early going with a five-point deficit. With Fullerton leading 16-11, Idaho began a slow but steady comeback. The Vandals didn't lead until 25-24, but two kills by Brooke Haeberle and two more by Anna-Marie Hammond sealed the deal.

Heather Kniss led Idaho with 10 kills, but UI used a balanced offensive attack for the victory. Laura McCaffrey, Meek and Hammond all recorded nine kills and Meek was tops among the hitters with a .313 percentage. Kniss scooped up 16 digs as four Idaho players reached double figures in pickups. Kristin DeBello and Jackie Gallagher each tallied 11 while Marques chipped in 10. Hammond had a match-high seven blocks (three solo, four assists).

Katie Crawford was Fullerton's top offensive threat with 10 kills, while Kim Levey picked up 14 digs.

The Titans will host Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara next weekend before visiting UC Riverside on Nov. 17 in the season finale.
