Cal State Northridge Holds on to Edge Titans

Erica Aera had 19 kills and 17 digs as Cal State Northridge edged Cal State Fullerton, 30-28, 30-27, 19-30, 23-30, 15-11, in a Big West Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Titan Gym.

The Matadors (6-3 overall, 1-1 in conference) scored narrow victories in the first two games but saw the Titans (3-4 overall, 0-1 in conference) even the match up at two games a piece. The Titans never trailed in game three and overcame an early 5-2 deficit in the fourth game to win handily. In the deciding fifth game, Northridge scored the first three points and never trailed. Laura Walter’s kill on an assist from Nadine Nickel gave the Matadors the win.

Walter had 17 kills and 14 digs for Northridge and Alexis Cormier tallied 14 kills and 22 digs. Nickel had 26 assists and Annie Shrieve had 28 assists. The Titans were led by Be Holcombe, who had 19 kills on a match-high .529 attack percentage. Setter Kim Levey had 67 assists and 29 digs, the fourth-highest single-match total in school history.

The Titans will resume Big West Conference play when they host Pacific on Friday night at 7 p.m.
