Match 1 Box Score Match 2 Box Score Be Holcombe had 17 kills and Megan Sabo added 16 and both hit over .400 as the Cal State Fullerton women’s volleyball team beat Manhattan, 30-22, 30-18, 30-19, in their Four Points Titan Classic opening match Friday afternoon. The Titans biggest test came in the first game, when the Jaspers closed to within, 21-19, but Fullerton responded with a 7-0 run to take a 28-19 lead. Manhattan scored two more points before a pair of kills by senior Katie Crawford put the game in the books. Manhattan held a brief lead early in game two, but the Titans outscored Manhattan, 15-1, over one stretch to take a 18-5 edge. The Titans, among the national leaders in digs a season ago, held the Jasper offense in check, allowing just seven kills while holding Manhattan to a .000 attack percentage in the game. Fullerton’s serving game accounted for an early lead in the third game. Four of the Titans’ first seven points came by way of the ace as Fullerton jumped out to a 9-1 lead. With the game seemingly in check, several Titan newcomers – Carley Dial, Michelle Armstrong, Sarah Morrison and Mary Landerville – all made their Fullerton debuts. Junior setter Kim Levey had 34 assists and a team-high 12 digs for Fullerton. For Manhattan, Lauren Belcher and Amy O’Dorisio each had seven kills and Bridgett Geddes had 22 assists. In earlier action at the Four Points Titan Classic, a quartet of Southwest Missouri State players reached double figures in kills to lead the Bears to a 21-30, 30-27, 30-23, 30-26 win over Iowa. The Hawkeyes were led by Sara Meyermann, who recorded an impressive 33 kills in the match. Saturday’s tournament schedule follows: Iowa vs. Cal State Fullerton, 10 a.m. Manhattan vs. Southwest Missouri State, 1 p.m. Iowa vs. Manhattan, 4:30 p.m. Cal State Fullerton vs. Southwest Missouri State, 7:30 p.m.
