GAME NOTES: Illinois State's Lauren Bierwirth doubled
to center with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh
to drive home the winning runs as the Redbirds upset No. 25 Northwestern,
2-1... Wildcats starter Courtnay Foster carried a no-hitter through 6
1/3 innings but a pair of walks and a single loaded the bases before Bierwirth's
double... Northwestern loaded the bases in the second with no outs, but
three straight ground balls got Illinois State out of the inning... The
Wildcats struck first in the third on a two-out, RBI single through the
right side by Jamie Dotson... Shannon Nicholson allowed just one run on
six hits while striking out two in the win... Foster allowed two runs
on two hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven, but walking five.

GAME NOTES: Boston College pushed across the game's
only run in the sixth, putting runners on the corners thanks to a walk
and single. Ashley Obrest followed, smashing a shot off the third baseman's
glove, scoring Jenna Macchi with the game winner... Britney Thompson earned
the win, scattering four hits and striking out four in the complete game
shutout... Liz Vrabel was the hard-luck loser, allowing a run on four
hits and striking out 10... All eight hits came from eight different players.

GAME NOTES: Nevada had a golden chance to score in
the second, getting a pair of singles and an error on a fielder's choice
with one out to load the bases; However a pair of ground balls got Minnesota
out of the jam... The Golden Gophers scored first in the bottom of the
second as Megan Higgenbotham doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and
scored on a passed ball for the 1-0 lead... Nevada's Brittany Lorenzen
tied it up in the third, smacking a two-out double over the head of the
centerfielder, scoring Kristin Stith from first base... a single and a
walk loaded the bases for Lindsey Hall, who was given new life when the
Minnesota first baseman lost a foul pop up in the lights... Hall followed
with a single to left, scoring Lorenzen for the 2-1 lead... Nevada broke
it open with three runs in the fourth, loading the bases with a pair of
walks and a single with one out... Lorenzen walked to drive in the first
run and was followed by Candice Rainwater, who singled back up the middle,
scoring a pair for the 5-1 lead... Minnesota added another run in the
seventh on an infield hit by Stephanie Sward for the final tally... Nevada
starter Jordan McPherson registered her first eight outs on strikeouts
(and 14 of 21 overall) before a ground ball snapped the string to end
the third.
