Titans
Perfect in Santa Barbara, Down Gauchos 1-0 March 26, 2005 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Story Courtesy UCSB Media Relations Despite another tremendous performance by Jennifer Davis, the UC Santa Barbara softball team came up short, losing 1-0 to Cal State Fullerton Saturday at Campus Diamond. The Gauchos, who lost all three games in the series by one run, fall to 14-13 overall and 0-3 in the Big West. Davis struck out five batters and retired the first twelve batters she faced, but fell to 8-6 on the year with the loss. Titan starter Brooke Weekley (2-2) earned her second victory in as many days, as she allowed just three hits and struck out four. Davis battled Weekley through three innings as neither pitcher allowed a hit. After Davis retired the side in order in the top of the fourth, the Gauchos threatened in the bottom half after Brittany Putich led off the inning with a single to short. She then stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Davis. With two outs, Weekly threw consecutive walks to Danielle Meyers and Lindsey Herrin, loading the bases, but rallied to retire the next batter and got out of the inning. Fullerton, 12-11 overall and 3-0 in the Big West, scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning when Lindsey Bashor walked with one out. She then advanced to second on a fielder¹s choice and scored the winning run on an infield error. Santa Barbara went down in order in the sixth inning, but threatened again in the seventh when Herrin drew a walk to lead off the inning and Shelby Hensler singled with two outs, but the team could not produce the tying run. Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Tuesday night (March 29) as the Titans host defending national champion UCLA in a single game beginning at 6 p.m. ####
