Selden Stymies Titan Bats as UCLA Wins 8-0
March 29, 2005 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

UCLA Freshman Anjelica Selden held Cal State Fullerton to just one hit and struck out nine batters as the Bruins defeated the Titans, 8-0, in six innings on Tuesday night at the Titan Softball Complex in front of 1,172 fans.

Fullerton fell to 12-12 overall while UCLA improved to 19-6.

Selden (11-3) allowed only an infield hit to Amanda Kamekona in the third inning as the Titans had only three other baserunners thanks to a walk and a pair of errors.

Four Bruins had at least two hits as Caitlin Benyi and Andrea Duran were both a perfect 2-for-2 with a combined five runs driven in. Jodie Legaspi and Ashley Herrera also had two hits.

Legaspi got UCLA on the board in the first with an RBI single and the Bruins busted things open with four more runs in the second on a two-run single by Benyi and a two-run double by Duran to make it 5-0.

The Bruins finished the scoring with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Benyi and a pair in the sixth on Lisa Dodd's two-run home run to left, her third of the season.

Freshman Dana Crucil (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits and walking a batter. Brooke Weekley entered in relief in the third, allowing three runs on three hits, walking four and striking out five.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action this weekend as the Titans resume Big West Conference play by hosting a three-game series with Cal Poly at the Titan Softball Complex.

The series opens with a doubleheader on Saturday (April 2) at noon and concludes with a single game on Sunday (April 3), also beginning at noon.
