Blank Syracuse, 2-0, in Kia Tune-Up March 15, 2005 – Fullerton, Calif. Box Score A pair of first inning runs and stellar pitching from junior Marissa Marzan helped lift host Cal State Fullerton to a 2-0 non-conference victory over Syracuse on Tuesday night at the Titan Softball Complex. The Titans improved to 8-7 overall on the season, moving a game over .500 for the fifth time this season. The Orange fell to 9-5 overall. Fullerton scored twice in the opening frame, the first coming on a feigned double steal when the runner from first stopped midway, but the throw down to second went under the glove of the shortstop, allowing Lindsey Bashor to scramble home for the 1-0 lead. Candice Baker made it 2-0, smacking a 2-2 pitch to right field that found its way under the glove of a diving rightfielder and rolled to the fence for a triple, driving Katie Gollhardt home from second base. That was all the Titans needed despite stranding seven runners on base for the game. Marzan (4-3) won her third consecutive start, allowing five hits and striking out five in tossing her second shutout of the season. Erin Downey (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and walking three. Courtney Mosch tossed four innings in relief, allowing just three hits and striking out two. Baker was 2-for-2 to lead the Titans' offense as six different players had hits. Fullerton returns to action on Wednesday night (March 16) as the Titans play host to the 16-team Kia Klassic on both fields of the Titan Softball Complex. Cal State Fullerton opens the tournament against North Carolina on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ####
