Titans Return to Postseason; Seeded No. 3 at UCLA
May 15, 2005 – Fullerton, Calif.

The Cal State Fullerton softball team will make its return to the NCAA Tournament in 2005, seeded No. 3 in the four-team regional hosted by Southern California rival UCLA at Easton Stadium.

The Titans, who saw their streak of five straight regional appearances snapped last season, will be making their 21st NCAA Tournament appearance and will meet No. 2-seed UNLV (43-17) on Friday (May 20) at 12 p.m.

Top-seeded, and No. 7 national seed, UCLA (30-16) meets No. 4-seed Loyola Marymount (34-18) in the second game at 2:30 p.m.

Play continues with three games on Saturday (May 21) at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3 p.m., with the regional championship to be held on Sunday (May 22) at 12 p.m., with an "if necessary" game to follow at 2:30 p.m.

The winner of the UCLA regional will face the winner of the Athens, Ga., regional on May 27-28 at a site to be determined. The host Bulldogs are the No. 10 national seed and will host Tennessee Tech, Virginia Tech, and Kansas.

Fullerton 4-2 against teams in the regional this season, going 1-2 against UCLA, 2-0 against the Lions, and 1-0 against the Rebels.

The Titans are 1-0 all-time against UNLV in postseason play, defeating the Rebels, 1-0, in the first round of the Women's College World Series in 1995. Fullerton is 6-9 all-time against UCLA in the postseason, last meeting the Bruins in the 1996 NCAA Regionals at Fullerton. The Titans and Lions have never met in the postseason, but Fullerton holds a 10-1 record against LMU in the all-time series.

Fullerton has met 13 teams overall in the 64-team tournament field, posting a 6-13 overall record against those schools.

Cal State Fullerton finished the regular season with a 28-19 overall record and a 14-7 mark in the Big West Conference for a third place finish after being picked fifth by the coaches in the preseason poll. The Titans enter the postseason on a nine-game winning streak, sweeping UC Davis, Pacific, and Cal State Northridge to close out the year.
