Box Score - Game 1 | Box Score - Game 2 UCLA freshman righthander Anjelica Selden combined to strikeout 22 batters on the day while holding the Cal State Fullerton bats to only five hits combined in two games as the Bruins advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals thanks to wins of 6-0 and 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium. UCLA improved to 32-17 overall and will meet the No. 10 national seed Georgia next weekend in a best-of-three series for a berth in the 2005 Women's College World Series. The Titans finished their season with a 30-21 overall record, marking a 12-game improvement in the win column over last season. Fullerton also finished 14-7 in the Big West Conference for third place after being picked fifth out of eight teams by the coaches in the preseason. GAME 1: UCLA 6, CAL STATE FULLERTON 0 UCLA freshman Anjelica Selden allowed only two hits on the day while the Bruins' bats blasted three home runs on the afternnon to lift the host and top-seeded Bruins to a 6-0 victory over third-seeded Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium. Emily Zaplatosch, Caitlin Benyi, and Kristen Dedmon each slammed home runs in the first, second, and sixth innings, respectively, to give the Bruins the victory. Selden (22-11) tossed her fourth complete game of the regional tournament, allowing hits to Crystal Vieyra in the third and Amanda Kamekona in the sixth as she kept the Titans' bats quiet after allowing seven hits in Saturday's 11-inning marathon. She finished the game with eight K's and tossed her 11th shutout of the season while defeating the Titans for the third time this season. Candice Baker (9-10) suffered the loss for the Titans, allowing five runs on five hits, walking three and striking out one in only four innings of work. Brooke Weekley worked the final three innings, allowing a run on three hits, walking one and striking out one. Zaplatosch's three-run home run in the first got the Bruins off to a quick start and was followed by Benyi's two-run shot in the second. Dedmon completed the scoring with her solo shot to center to lead off the sixth. GAME 2: UCLA 3, CAL STATE FULLERTON 1 Selden continued to roll in game two, striking out 14 batters (13 of those swinging), and holding the Titans to only one hit through six innings as the Bruins clinched a Super Regional berth with the 3-1 victory. UCLA got on the board early as sophomore Jodie Legaspi singled home Caitlin Benyi with two outs after Benyi had been hit by a pitch. However, Fullerton starter Candice Baker (9-11) worked out of any further damage as she struck out Kristen Dedmon swinging to end the threat and strand a pair in scoring position. The Bruins added another run in the fourth as Ashley Herrera singled and scored one batter later on Andrea Duran's two-out triple to make it 2-0. Duran was thrown out trying to score on the play after the throw from the outfield went to the backstop, but was backed up perfectly by Baker, who flipped to Kiki Munoz at the the plate to prevent Duran from scoring. UCLA freshman Krista Colburn made it 3-0 in the sixth as she slugged her third home run of the season to right field. Selden retired 15 consecutive batters at one point into the seventh inning when Candice Baker reached on an infield single and scored one batter later when Ashley Van Boxmeer finally got the Titans on the scoreboard with her RBI double to right centerfield to make it 3-1. That was all the damage Cal State Fullerton would be able to do, however, as Selden struck out the final two batters of the inning to nail down the regional victory. Baker suffered the loss after throwing six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out a pair. Selden allowing only three hits in the complete-game effort. Munoz also had a hit for the Titans while UCLA was led by Legaspi and Herrera, who each had a pair of hits on the day. ####
