Baker's Walk-Off Single Lifts Titans to Sweep
May 8, 2005 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

Cal State Fullerton sophomore Candice Baker's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh plated Lindsey Bashor with the game-winning run as the Titans completed the three-game sweep of visiting Pacific by a count of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Titan Softball Complex.

With the victory, Fullerton improved to 25-19 overall and 11-7 in Big West Conference play, extending its winning streak to a season-best six games. The Tigers fell to 28-24 overall, 10-8 in league play.

Bashor led off the Titans' half of the seventh inning with a single back up the middle and moved to second on Amanda Kamekona's fielder's choice, beating out the throw. Freshman Katie Gollhardt then sacrificed both runners into scoring position for Baker, who smashed a line shot past Crystal Presson at third to score Bashor and clinch the victory.

Titan righthander Marissa Marzan (12-5) won her sixth start in her last seven outings, despite being saddled with 10 walks on the afternoon. Marzan allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three in her 13th complete-game outing of the season.

Lauren Sandelin (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing the winning run on two hits and walking one in 2.1 innings of work. Starter Alyce Jorgensen earned a no-decision after allowing three runs on six hits in four innings.

An RBI single by Pacific's Ashlie D'Errico with two outs in the first got the Tigers on the board but Fullerton responded with a two-out run of its own in the second as sophomore Tiffany Hoff blasted her first home run of the season to left to tie the score.

Pacific regained the lead on a run-scoring double by Brandi Gordon in the third and threatened to score more with two outs, but Marzan got Kristen Allen to fly out and end the threat.

Cal State Fullerton took its first lead of the game in fourth as the first three batters in the frame singled to load the bases. After a pop out, Kiki Munoz reached on a bloop single to right, plating Candice Baker to tie the game at 2-2.

The Titans took the lead on the very next batter as pinch hitter Dana Crucil hit a soft grounder to the second baseman, whose only play was to first, scoring Ashley Van Boxmeer from third for the 3-2 advantage.

Pacific came back to tie the game in the fifth as the Tigers loaded the bases with two outs thanks to a pair of walks and a bloop single to left by Lizzie Hagen. That brought up pinch hitter Lindsey Garehime, who was hit by a Marzan pitch with a full count to drive home the tying run and make it 3-3.

Baker, Hoff, and Munoz each had two hits on the day to lead the Titans' offense while D'Errico went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Tigers.

Cal State Fullerton closes out the 2005 next weekend (May 13-14) as the Titans play host to Cal State Northridge at the Titan Softball Complex. Friday night's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. with Saturday's single game beginning at 1 p.m.
