Marzan Earns First Pitcher of the Week
Honor May 2, 2005 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton junior righthander Marissa Marzan was named the Big
West Pitcher of the Week on Monday (May 2) after her exploits in the circle
helped lift the Titans to a weekend sweep of UC Davis.
Marzan, who earned her first career weekly conference award and the second
for a Titan pitcher this season (Candice Baker, Feb. 9), earned her first
career save in the opener versus the Aggies, pitching the final inning
of a 5-4 come-from-behind victory. She then went all eight innings in
the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader, striking out 10 batters
and scattering only three hits.
In Sunday’s finale, she tossed her second complete game of the series,
allowing only four hits and striking out seven in the Titans’ 5-2
win. Opponents hit just .137 against her on the weekend as only two of
her seven hits allowed went for extra bases while posting a 0.88 ERA on
the weekend.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action this weekend as the Titans play
host to rival Pacific on May 7-8 at the Titan Softball Complex. Saturday's
doubleheader and Sunday's single game are both scheduled to begin at 12
p.m.
