Box Score

Cal State Fullerton sophomore Candice Baker scattered just three hits and struck out a career-high 11 to help lift the Titans to a 5-0 victory over North Carolina in the opener for both teams at the 2005 Kia Klassic.

Fullerton moved to 9-7 overall, marking the first time that the Titans have been two games over .500 this season. The Tar Heels fell to 16-11 overall.

Baker (5-3) held UNC hitless through the first 3 2/3 innings before Whitney Gelin's single through the left side broke up the no-hit bid. Baker and the Titans' defense stranded nine Tar Heels on base -- including six in scoring position.

UNC's Crystal Cox (7-7) suffered the loss, allowing three earned on four hits, walking five and striking out six.

The Titans took the early lead, putting up three runs in the second on a bases-loaded walk to Ashlee Weatherford and a two-run single to left by Amanda Kamekona.

Fullerton added two more in the fifth after a pair of errors put runners on and Baker brought them both home with a triple to right centerfield to make it 5-0.

Four different Titans accounted for the team's hits while three different Tar Heels did the same for UNC.

Cal State Fullerton continues pool play on Thursday (March 17) at approximately 6:15 p.m. as the Titans take on nationally-ranked Michigan.
