Michigan
Downs Fullerton On Day Two of Kia March 17, 2005 Fullerton, Calif. 2005 Kia Klassic Tournament Page Box Score Michigan hit a pair of home runs and starter Lorilyn Wilson remained undefeated on the season, allowing just one hit on the night and striking out 12 as No. 5 Michigan defeated Cal State Fullerton, 3-2, late Thursday night at the Kia Klassic. Fullerton fell to 9-8 overall on the season while the Wolverines won their 22nd straight contest to improve to 22-1. Wilson (9-0) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Monica Tantlinger led off with a single to centerfield. Brooke Weekley (0-2) suffered the loss for Cal State Fullerton, allowing three runs on three hits in four innings of work. Michigan's two home runs came via the bats of Becky Marx, whose two-run shot in the fourth gave the Wolverines the early lead, and Michelle Teschler, whose lead-off shot in the fifth proved to be the game-winner. The Titans got within a run with a pair of runs in the sixth. After Tantlinger's single, Lindsey Bashor drew a one-out walk and both scored when, on a double steal, the throw from the Michigan catcher went past the third baseman and rolled all the way to the fence, allowing both runners to score and cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Wilson would settle down, striking out three of the final five batters she faced to nail down the win. Pool play at the Kia Klassic wraps up tomorrow (March 18) with games beginning on both fields at 9 a.m. at the Titan Softball Complex. The Titans finish against another nationally-ranked foe, No. 24 Fresno State, at approximately 4 p.m. ####
