One-Hit by Fresno State in 12-0 Loss March 18, 2005 – Fullerton, Calif. 2005 Kia Klassic Tournament Page Box Score The Fresno State offense bashed out 10 hits against a pair of Titan pitchers and Jamie Southern held Cal State Fullerton to one hit on the night as the Bulldogs nailed down the No. 2 seed in Pool B with a 12-0 victory in five innings on Friday night at the Titan Softball Complex. Fullerton, which finished 1-2 in pool play, fell to 9-9 overall on the season and suffered the third-worst defeat in the history of the program. Fresno State improved to 17-6 overall. The game pit high school rivals from Fresno, Calif., in Southern, who pitched for Clovis HS, and Titans' starter Marissa Marzan, who pitched for Bullard HS. Southern (8-2) got the best of Marzan, slamming a first-inning home run to left for the 1-0 lead, and tossing five shutout innings in the one-hit win, striking out five. Marzan (4-4), who had won three straight starts, suffered the loss, allowing six runs on five hits, walking four. Freshman Dana Crucil tossed the final two innings, allowing five earned on five hits. Southern, Nichole Willis, and Rachael Donaldson each had two hits for the Bulldogs while four FSU players had at least two RBI -- including three each from Donaldson and Jenna Cervantez. Fresno State jumped all over the Titans in the first, plating five runs on Southern's solo shot and a pair of run-scoring doubles by Donaldson and Cervantez. The Bulldogs added a single run each in the second and third on an RBI hit from Kristin Sylvester and a sacrifice fly by Christina Clark to make it 7-0. FSU closed the deal in the fifth, scoring another five runs on three straight one-out hits and a two-run single to left by Sylvester to cap the scoring. Lindsey Bashor had the lone hit for the Titans - a single to left to lead off the fourth. Cal State Fullerton drops into the consolation championship bracket where it will face an opponent to be determined from Pool B at 4 p.m. on Saturday (March 19) on Field 2. Fresno State will play the winner of Pool B on on Saturdayat 11:15 a.m. on the main field. ####
