Baker, Bashor Lead All-West Region Selections May 19, 2005 – Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton sophomore Candice Baker and senior Lindsey Bashor
were each named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-West Region
squad on Thursday after a vote of member coaches from each region.
Both Titans are now eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA
All-America Teams which will be announced on ESPN during the Women's College
World Series.
Baker was named to the all-region first team as the utility player after
hitting .280 with five doubles, four triples, two home runs and 24 RBI.
The team leader with 10 steals on the season, Baker also scored 22 runs
and walked 18 times during the regular season while slugging .432.
Baker was also an integral part of the Titans' pitching corps, going 8-9
in the circle with a pair of saves and a 2.46 ERA. She led the team in
strikeouts with 96 and ranked third in the regular season in batting average
against, holding opponents to a .195 average.
Bashor was named to the all-region second team after finishing the regular
season with a .361 average, 10 doubles, eight home runs, 31 runs scored,
and 27 RBI. She ranked among Big West leaders in nine different offensive
categories while starting all 47 games for Cal State Fullerton.
The Titans continue their season this weekend as the No. 3 seed at the
2005 NCAA Regional hosted by UCLA. Fullerton opens against second-seeded
UNLV on Friday afternoon (May 20) at noon at Easton Stadium.
