GAME NOTES: Shanel Scott's RBI infield single with the bases
loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth scored Alliya Anderson
from third with the game-winning run as the Cowgirls defeated Portland
State 4-3... Jessica Hoppock earned the win in 7 1/3 innings of relief,
allowing two unearned runs on five hits and striking out three... Scott
finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI... Portland State's Annie Peccia
was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Rose Rutledge also had two hits.
GAME 2
(#4) California 3, UC Santa Barbara 2
W: Kelly Anderson L: Lindsey Sommer
GAME NOTES: California hit three home runs, including a pair
by third baseman Vicky Galindo, to lift the Golden Bears to a 3-2 victory
over UC Santa Barbara... Haley Woods smacked the first round-tripper of
the day to give Cal the 1-0 lead and was followed an inning later by Galindo's
first of the day to right centerfield to make it 2-0... UCSB closed the
gap with a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Lindsay Herrin, scoring
Leslie Simien... Galindo's second HR of the day extended Cal's lead to
3-1, but the Gauchos got closer with a run in the sixth on an RBI by Kendra
Singley, plating Simien once again... Kelly Anderson earned the win, allowing
only three hits and striking out five.
GAME 3
(RV) Michigan State 7, (RV) Cal State Fullerton 5
W: Katie Joosten (2-1) L: Brooke Weekley (4-4)
GAME NOTES: Janette Hurtado's two-run double to left with one
out in the bottom of the seventh broke a 5-5 tie and lifted the Spartans
to a 7-5 victory over the Titans... Lindsey Bashor gave the Titans a quick
2-0 lead with her fifth home run of the season over the right centerfield
fence, scoring Julie Watson, who led off the game with a single... MSU
answered with five runs in the first on a three base error, back-to-back
RBI singles, and a bases-loaded walk to knock out starter Candice Baker...
Brooke Weekley then came in with the bases loaded and no outs, getting
a pair of fly outs and a strikeouts to stop the bleeding... Weekley pitched
well, allowing only four hits until the seventh when Natalie Furrow led
off with a double and scored the winning run on Hurtado's double... Julie
Watson was 4-for-4 with a pair of runs while Bashor finished 2-for-3 with
three RBI.
GAME 4
Cal State Northridge 3, (#25) Oregon State 2
W: Kia Fennell (6-4) L: Monica Hoffman (10-5)
GAME NOTES: Cal State Northridge scored a run in the sixth on
an error by the Oregon State shortstop and Kia Fennell held off the Beavers'
offense over the final two innings as the Matadors held on for the upset...
Both teams scored a pair of runs in the first as CSUN Christen Bedwell
and Fennell each had RBI singles for the 2-0 lead... Oregon State tied
it up in its half of the first, on an RBI single by Vanessa Iapala and
an error on the third baseman on the same play... Fennell allowed an earned
run on five hits and struck out six in the complete-game effort while
also going 2-for-2 at the plate.
GAME 5
(#10) Stanford 9, (RV) Cal State Fullerton 0
W: Dana Sorensen (10-3)
L: Brooke Weekley (4-5)
GAME NOTES: Stanford scored at least one run in each of the first
three innings, including RBI doubles by Jackie Rinehart and Meghan Sickler,
and starting pitcher Dana Sorensen allowed just three hits on the day
as the Cardinal closed out the Worth Invitational with a 9-0 victory...
The Cardinal scored four runs in the sixth and Sorensen set the side down
in order in the bottom of the inning to invoke the run-rule... Rinehart
was 3-for-3 with two runs, while Lappin, Sickler and Bendig added two
hits... Julie Watson had a double, Lindsey Bashor had a single in the
seventh, and Porsha Draper added the Titans only other hit with her first
career single in the second.
