Watson Named All-West Region First-Teamer May 19, 2004 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton senior outfielder Julie Watson added to her post-season
honor haul on Wednesday, earning first-team All-West Region honors as
voted by the coaches.
The Titans have had a representative on the all-region first-team in each
of the last seven seasons and Watson is now eligible for the 2004 Louisville
Slugger/NFCA All-American squad to be announced during the Women's College
World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
She was one of seven Big West players named to the first team and one
of 11 players from the conference overall.
Watson, who earned All-Big West Conference first-team honors on Tuesday
for the first time in her career, finished second in the Big West Conference
in batting during the regular season with a career-best .426 average and
a league-leading 78 hits. She also ranked second in stolen bases with
18 and drove in 16 runs on the year from the leadoff spot.
The senior from Valencia, Calif., finished tied for sixth in the league
in total bases (87), 10th in slugging (.475), sixth in on base percentage
(.441), tied for fifth in runs scored (31), and seventh in at bats (183).
She had a team-best 13 game hitting streak, during which she went 24-for-46
at the plate (.522) with eight runs scored and four RBI. Watson finished
with hits in 15 of her final 16 games and led the team with 26 multi-hit
games including six three-hit performances and two four-hit games.
