Watson Named Second-Team All-American May 27, 2004 Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton senior outfielder Julie Watson became the 36th softball
All-American in the history of the Titan program when she was named to
the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American second team on Thursday.
Watson (Valencia, Calif.), who also earned first-team All-Big West Conference
and All-West Region honors earlier in the month, is the 27th different
Cal State Fullerton player to be named to the All-America team. Watson's
award gives the Titans at least one All-American in each of the last seven
years.
Watson experienced a break-out senior season, finishing second in the
Big West Conference in batting with a career-best .426 average and a league-leading
78 hits. She also ranked second in stolen bases with 18 and drove in 16
runs on the year from the leadoff spot.
She finished eighth in the league in total bases (87), ninth in slugging
(.475), sixth in on base percentage (.441), and seventh in runs scored
(31).
She had a team-best 13 game hitting streak, during which she went 24-for-46
at the plate (.522) with eight runs scored and four RBI. Watson finished
with hits in 15 of her final 16 games and led the team with 26 multi-hit
games – including six three-hit performances and two four-hit games.
Fullerton finished the season with an 18-34 overall record and a 7-14
mark in the Big West Conference.
