Brooke Weekley pitched a 2-hit shutout and Julie Watson had two hits
and two runs scored Saturday afternoon as Cal State Fullerton beat Cal
State Northridge, 4-0, to take the 3-game Big West Conference series,
2 games to 1.
The win was No. 200 for fifth-year Head Coach Michelle
Gromacki.
Fullerton is now 13-24 overall and 2-4 in the Big West. CSUN is 21-14
and 2-4.
Weekly faced only four batters over the minimum, allowing two singles
and issuing three walks to go with three strikeouts while improving to
9-10. In the series she allowed only two runs (one earned) and six hits
in 19 2/3 innings while picking up a pair of victories.
Watson singled and scored in the first inning on Candice Baker's two-out
double. Watson singled and scored along with Jody Campbell on Monica Tantlinger's
two-out, two-run single in the second inning. Jenna Wheeler hit her first
collegiate home run in the sixth for the final Titans' run.
Jenny Wheeler lasted only 11 batters for CSUN and took her second loss
of the series to fall to 5-5. Emilee Moores' single in the fourth and
Lauren Allen's pinch-hit single in the fifth were the only Matador hits.
Fullerton visits Pacific next weekend while Northridge travels to Utah
State.
