Matadors,
Titans Trade 3-2 Victories Apr. 9, 2004 Fullerton, Calif. Game One Box Score Game Two Box Score Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge traded a pair of come-from-behind 3-2 victories Friday night in a Big West Conference doubleheader at the Titan Softball Complex. Julie Watson's 1-out, 2-run double capped a 3-run Titan seventh inning in the opener but in the nightcap the Matadors parlayed a double, five walks, an error, a sacrifice fly and two wild pitches into a 3-run second inning that overcame a 2-run first-inning home run by Fullerton's Lindsey Bashor for a split. The Titans are now 12-24 overall and 1-4 in the Big West while the Matadors are 21-13 and 2-3. Brooke Weekly did the bulk of the pitching for the Titans. She allowed only two infield singles in the first inning for a 2-hit win in the opener that improved her record to 8-10. She pitched 5.2 innings of relief in the nightcap, allowing only two hits and no runs. Erin Sigala (7-2) went the distance in the nightcap for the CSUN win. She scattered three singles after Bashor's seventh homer of the year in the first that followed a walk to Monica Tantlinger. In the opener, CSUN scored three batters into the game. Laura Hovestreydt walked on four pitches, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on Jade Abel's infield single. The second Matador run came in the seventh when Watson dropped a fly ball in right field allowing Sondra Milchiker to reach second base. Milchiker moved up on a sacrifice and scored as pinch-hitter Emilee Moores grounded out to first. But the Titans beat Jenny Wheeler (5-4) in the bottom of the inning. Jenna Wheeler singled and ended up at third when shortstop Kelly Zakosek booted Porsha Draper's ground ball. Jennifer Holt singled Wheeler home and sent Draper to third and Holt went to second on a throw home. After Jody Campbell struck out, Watson drilled a pitch to the fence in right center field to easily score Draper and Holt. In the nightcap, Candice Baker (4-14) gave up a leadoff double to Moores in the second before walking four of the next five hitters and leaving with the bases loaded, one out and the score tied at 2-2. Weekly relieved and gave up a decisive sacrifice fly to center by pinch-hitter Milchiker before getting out of the inning. Fullerton left the bases loaded after one out in the third and with two out in the fourth and then got only one other base runner off Sigala. The teams complete the 3-game series Saturday at noon. ####
